TSI Addresses a DFAIT Forum of Canadian IT Suppliers and South African IT Buyers
October 31, 2008 – The president of TSI, Christie Christelis, was invited by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) to address a group of Canadian IT suppliers and a South African IT Buying delegation at a forum held at the Innovation Synergy Centre in Markham, Ontario. The presentation delivered by Mr. Christelis was titled ‘Innovation in South Africa’ and provided an overview of some of the technological innovations that have emanated from South Africa. The Forum was organized by DFAIT to promote trade and investment between Canada and South Africa.

Training Program on Economic Regulation, Competition and Privatisation in Cameroon
September 15, 2008 – Christie Christelis, President of Technology Strategies International, designed and delivered a five day in-depth training program on Economic Regulation, Competition and Privatisation for the Telecommunications Regulatory Board of Cameroon. The course, held in the picturesque resort town of Kribi on the Atlantic Coast, was attended by Cameroonian delegates from fixed and mobile operators, the regulatory authority, a training institute and Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. In addition, there were a number of delegates from the Republic of Chad.
The course covered numerous aspects of economic regulation of the telecommunications sector regulation in ICTs, including principles of economic regulation, anticompetitive behaviour, structuring the market, SMP, price regulation, privatisation and market liberalisation, and promoting competition in telecommunications. The program was delivered as part of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation’s (CTO) Program for Development Training (PDT) and was provided under contract to Alliances Consulting, a PDT Supplier Member of the CTO.

Training Program on Regulation and Convergence for the CCK
August 25, 2008 – Christie Christelis, President of Technology Strategies International, designed and delivered a five day in-depth training program titled ‘Regulation and Applications Under Convergence’ for the Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK). The course, held at the Kenya College of Communication Technology (KCCT) Mbagathi Campus just outside Nairobi, was attended by delegates from fixed and mobile operators, the regulatory authority, and the KCCT. In addition, Cameroon and Lesotho sent delegates to the training course. The workshop addressed different views of convergence and emerging business models brought about as a result of convergence. It went on to examine the impact of convergence on the regulatory environment. The program was delivered as part of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation’s (CTO) Program for Development Training (PDT) and was provided under contract to Alliances Consulting, a PDT Supplier Member of the CTO.

Training Program on Negotiating International Accounting Rates for Mauritius Telecom
August 13, 2008 – The President of Technology Strategies International, Christie Christelis, designed and delivered a five day in-depth training program on the Negotiation of International Accounting Rates for Mauritius Telecom. The course was held at Mauritius Telecom’s (MT) head office in Port Louis in Mauritius and was attended by MT’s staff from regulatory affairs, wholesale and finance. A delegate from the National Communications Authority of Ghana also attended the course. The program examined different methods of determining accounting rates, including historical practise, benchmarking and the use of cost-based models such as Long Run Incremental Costing (LRIC). A number of important international legal cases were presented. By special request of MT, the course included modules on number portability and local loop unbundling. The program was delivered as part of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation’s (CTO) Program for Development Training (PDT) and was provided under contract to Alliances Consulting, a PDT Supplier Member of the CTO.

TSI Completes a Major Review of Prospects for the Global Ethanol Market
May 23, 2008 – TSI completed a major review of ethanol processing technologies and prospects for the ethanol market, focusing on the Canadian, US and European markets. The assignment was undertaken for a Canadian startup that is in the process of commercializing a technology that can increase plant throughput dramatically. The study was conducted under the Ontario Centre of Excellence Market readiness Program.

Training Program on Licensing in a Converged Environment for ICASA in South Africa
March 14, 2008 – Christie Christelis, President of Technology Strategies International, designed and delivered a five day in-depth training program titled ‘Licensing in a Converged Environment’ for the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA). The course, held in Sandton, South Africa, was attended by delegates the Regulator as well as a representative from the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO). The workshop addressed different views of convergence, international case studies on how regulators have deal with convergence, licensing in a converged environment. By special request from ICASA, the course content included price regulation, MVNOs and sustainable rural communications. The program was delivered as part of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation’s (CTO) Program for Development Training (PDT) and was provided under contract to Alliances Consulting, a PDT Supplier Member of the CTO.
