Top Ten Developments in the Canadian Payments Industry in 2012
The most important developments in Canadian payments industry in 2012 have been on three fronts, viz. regulatory oversight, product innovation and product commercialization. Mobile payments have been top of mind, and while they are still in their infancy in Canada, the year saw some important developments in setting the stage for successful mobile payments rollout. On the regulatory side there have been a number of initiatives, including readying the environment for mobile payments, taking on the big payment card networks and setting the stage for new markets (for example, prepaid). Contactless payments have gained traction as have ‘competing’ debit offerings. Cash threatened by contactless and mobile payments
(Oakville, Ontario – May 16, 2010) — Contactless payments are rolling out rapidly in Canada, and are likely to account for significant transaction volumes and values by 2016, a new study published by Technology Strategies International predicts.  According to the recently released market research report titled “Canadian Payments Forecast - 2012”, there is also strong interest in mobile payments, although over the next few years this is likely to ride on the back of contactless rollout. Read more...

TSI to Participate in Keynote Panel Discussion at the Mobile Money Forum, Montreal
TSI President, Christie Christelis, will participate in the closing keynote panel discussion at the Mobile Money Forum in Montreal on June 13 and 14. The session, titled, Future State of the Mobile Commerce Marketplace: Evolution of the Ecosystem, will examine the current state of mobile commerce in Canada, social media in the payments space and merchant integration of mobile payments.
